Maana Electric competing in the 2nd ESA/ESRIC Space Resources Challenge

LuMA system tested in the LUNA facility in Cologne.
Cologne, October 20th 2025
Maana Electric together with Aalborg Universitet (AAU Space Robotics) and the University of Luxembourg (SpaceR at SnT, Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust), participated to the 2nd edition of the Space Resources Challenge. This challenge is organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Space Resources and Innovation Center (ESRIC) and rings together leading European teams to advance technologies for future lunar missions and demonstrate how in-situ resource utilisation can support long-term presence on the Moon.
Maana and its partners joined together in the team LuMA in a competitive mix of academic and industrial experience. During the challenge LuMA team successfully demonstrated collection, transportation and beneficiation of lunar regolith simulants, during a field test, held from 13 to 17 October 2025 at the LUNA facility, ESA European Astronaut Center (EAC) in Cologne.
This represented a great achievement as it paves the way for future in-situ resource utilization ISRU on the Moon. At the heart of this achievement is Maana Electric’s unique beneficiation technology, which enables precise size sorting of regolith, optimizing it for downstream processes such as oxygen production, metals extraction and additive manufacturing applications which are currently in development at Maana.
