ISRU PROCESS TEST ENGINEER

Your mission

As a vital member of our engineering team, you’ll spearhead the development and optimization of cutting-edge Chemical and Metallurgical processes for In-Situ Resources Utilization (ISRU), turning raw space resources into essential metals and products to boost human space exploration. Your mission will involve designing and optimizing these processes to enhance Maana Electric’s existing prototypes and to innovate new concepts from scratch. Embracing our rapid-prototyping approach, you’ll be actively engaged in testing activities, providing you with invaluable firsthand experience in refining and iterating upon the processes optimization.

Your tasks

  • Supporting the main testing activities of experimental setups (e.g. breadboards and prototypes) of new emerging technologies.
  • Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration to different research domains (metallurgy, electrochemistry, material science, etc.).
  • Conceptualization and planning of testing campaign together with R&D leads.
  • Execution of testing framework to generate high-quality results using breadboards and prototypes.
  • Supporting R&D leads in identification of opportunities (technology surveys, trade-off studies, etc.) and arising challenges (design modifications, components replacement, etc.), participating in the problem-solving tasks.
  • Management of laboratory equipment and experimental setups, maintaining the integrity, standards, and quality of the testing activities.
  • Adhering to all laboratory safety protocols and regulations.
  • Providing robust testing documents and reports.

What you need to succeed

  • Master’s degree in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of work. PhD can be taken as work experience in case it is on a directly related applicational project.
  • Strong hands-on experience in breadboard and prototype testing, and protocols/procedures documentation.
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques (e.g. metallography, microscopy, and spectroscopy) and in-field testing (e.g. high current, high temperature, vacuum, or pressure vessels) and knowledge of basic safety regulations.
  • Hands-on skills for assembling and maintaining laboratory test equipment and prototypes.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills, including good knowledge of statistical analysis methods and software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Minitab, Origin, etc.).
  • Good written and effective oral communication in English. Other languages are considered an asset.
  • Strong work ethics and passion to set and meet high performance standards.
  • Agile, growth-oriented mindset to synergically work and share your experience with other professionals within Maana.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced startup environment.

Preferably, you’ll also have

  • Previous experience in testing electrolytic cells, metallurgical furnaces and/or metal casting.
  • Knowledge of aerospace review structures (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.). and proven experience in space projects.
