Mechanical Technician

Location: Luxembourg, Europe

Are you a Mechanical Technician with hands on workshop experience and liking creative challenges? Are you eager to take the next step in your career? If so, we have a great opportunity for you! We’re seeking a skilled person to join our dynamic team of technicians, engineers, and scientists to embark on a thrilling journey into technologies essential to power Earth and Space exploration.

Your Role:
As a Mechanical Technician in our research and development team, you will play a vital role in supporting innovation activities focused on advancing materials for energy applications. The daily work will focus on building, troubleshooting, maintaining, and running experimental setups and prototypes needed for establishing the proof of concepts and the scale up of novel processes for metal production and refining.
You will work under the direction of a scientist/engineer running the project together with test and R&D technicians. You will have a level of autonomy in organizing your support work for keeping the experiments running. You will interface with the mechanical workshop of the company for more complex tasks and have access to the workshop’s machine park and tools.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the R&D team with hands-on assistance and mechanical know-how (basic CAD drawing is required).
  • Solving daily mechanical challenges with a directly engaged “can-do attitude” applying know how and analytical thinking skills for creation of new experimental setups and troubleshooting.
  • Machining elements for – and assembling – setups used in the R&D facility.
  • Participating in operating experimental and prototype setups as a technical support.
  • Assessing technical feasibility of implementation of specific experimental designs.
  • Taking initiative on improvements regarding the experimental and prototype setups from the perspective of held mechanical expertise.
  • Contributing to the improvement of health and safety practices by embracing the “safety first” attitude and taking health and safety considerations when proposing new experimental setups or improving and operating the existing ones.

What you need to succeed:

  • You have vocational training as a mechanical workshop technician or similar.
  • You have 3+ years of experience working in a workshop environment with a high level of autonomy, preferably on innovation related projects.
  • Experience in machining using various workshop machines and tools (CNC, lathe, drills, cutting tools).
  • Being familiar with or keen to learn 3D printing techniques.
  • Basic CAD skills for preparing simple drawings.
  • Willingness to follow safety procedures and protocols in a laboratory setting.
  • Good ability to communicate when taking instructions and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • In terms of languages, you must have effective communication in English. Other languages are considered an asset.
  • You have strong work ethics and passion to set and meet high performance standards.
  • You have an agile, growth-oriented mindset and you are particularly motivated to bring the best experience to Maana.
